Instagram Marketing is Fun
Instagram marketing is a fun and visual strategy for brand development. It has particular appeal for creatives like Illustrators, Artists, and Crafters. Instagram offers followers a visual insight into the lives of these sometimes mythical creatures.
We use Instagram to keep our creative juices flowing. Our Daily Icon Illustration project keeps our pencils sharp and our minds happily inspired.
Instagram is great for keeping your work in the public eye. A quick photo of your work in progress can provide potential clients just enough insight to consider hiring you. These snippets of the daily working life of a creative are essential brand development.
It’s not enough to simply post finished pieces and all the final designs. Clients and followers alike want more. They want the mistakes, they want the cat nudging your hand as you ink a final draft – they little slivers of what your life looks like.
5 Creative Instagram Accounts We Love
We spend a lot of time on Instagram. (No regrets!)
We follow a range of accounts, from Food producers to Chefs and Artists to Manufacturers. What excites us about these accounts and keep us coming back for more are the brand insights, the little tidbits that reveal an unknown quality or skill.
We’d like to share 5 accounts of Illustrators we follow. These Illustrators make our Odes and Ink Instagram feed full of joy and excitement, thanks guys!
We’ve been friends with Mike for years now. We met him when we put on his first solo show at the Joy Gallery back in 2009. Mike’s style is hyper-detailed and surreal. His intricate details and other-worldly scenes set him apart as a unique Illustrator.
Mike has recently turned his skills to tattooing. His Instagram feed shows tattoo flash sheets alongside commissions for clients. Mike keeps all his posts in black and white which creates a clean and defined profile.
Mike’s attention to detail is also apparent with all his posts being landscape. He’s a total perfectionist, something that’s evident in his Instagram account.
We have a few of Alex’s pieces in our house, a particularly special one being Pirate Fox sailing the 7 Seas that Alex kindly gave us when our son, Hal, was born.
We adore her Instagram feed. Alex posts lots of works-in-progress shots which offer great insight into her working methodology. Part of the charm of this strategy is seeing artworks coming to life – it’s such a joy!
Alex’s sketches are full of movement and life. As a follower, you can track the development of an idea through it’s sketching phase, into the digitalisation stage and then the final prints or book.
It’s a pleasing and joyful journey to be a part of, Alex’s Instagram account is a wonderful experience, so check it out!
We discovered Japan based artist Daniel Isles, aka Dirty Robot, via an Instagram give away he ran through his account. Dirty Robot was celebrating 1,000 follower by gifting original artwork. Happily, we won ourselves an awesome Dirty Robot comic!
Here are the rules he set:
1. Like this post and comment why you should get your hands on one of these pieces.
2. Repost anything from this account and hashtag #DirtyRobot
Only one comment for each account please. This is open to everyone! The winners will be chosen at random when the giveaway ends in 48 hours. I will announce the winner Wednesday 22nd June, 10pm Japan time.
Good luck and thank you all for your great support!
This type of Instagram marketing isn’t new, but it’s a great way to give back to the followers who support you. We love you Dirty Robot!
Harri is another fabulous Illustrator who shares insights into her working processes. What we like about Harri’s Instagram feed is the mixture of her working methods, her inspirations and lots of examples of work for previous clients. The latter highlights how Instagram marketing is a strong element of brand development.
We are always interested to see who Harri has and is working for. Her client base is varied which makes her Instagram feed a diverse and colourful place to rest awhile. Go see!
Australian Freelance Illustrator/Designer, Travis Price, has one of the coolest Instagram feeds we know of. Every illustration or design is sleek and memorable. We always look forward to his next post.
What makes Travis’s feed so intoxicating is his style. There isn’t an out-of-place post. Travis is obviously a well establish Illustrator with a defined personal brand. His Instagram feed shows his skill as a illustrator and designer, but also as an individual who understands the importance of identity.
As a branding agency, we are always impressed by well presented brands. These 5 artists have built personal brands around their creativity. They’ve used Instagram marketing as a tool to showcase their skills and work to a broad audience of fans and customers.
Don’t forget to follow all the artist we’ve showcased here. Probably best to follow the Odes and Ink account too, just incase you miss a free give away!
